\u81ea\u4ece\u52a0\u5165\u54c8\u91cc\u65af\u7684\u7ade\u9009\u56e2\u961f\u540e\uff0c\u74e6\u8328\u5dde\u957f\u5f88\u5c11\u63d0\u53ca\u4e2d\u56fd\u6216\u4ed6\u524d\u5f80\u8be5\u56fd\u7684\u5386\u53f2\u3002\u6700\u8fd1\u51e0\u5929\uff0c\u5171\u548c\u515a\u4eba\u5c06\u74e6\u8328\u4e0e\u4e2d\u56fd\u7684\u8054\u7cfb\u4f5c\u4e3a\u8fdb\u4e00\u6b65\u5ba1\u67e5\u7684\u76ee\u6807\u3002\u7279\u6717\u666e\u7ade\u9009\u56e2\u961f\u9ad8\u7ea7\u987e\u95ee\u6770\u68ee\u00b7\u7c73\u52d2\u8868\u793a\u9884\u8ba1\u6587\u7b56\u5c14\uff08Vance\uff09\u5c06\u5728\u5468\u4e8c\u665a\u4e0a\u7684\u8fa9\u8bba\u4e2d\u653b\u51fb\u74e6\u8328\u5173\u4e8e\u8bbf\u95ee\u4e2d\u56fd\u7684\u8bb0\u5f55\u3002<\/p>\n

\u8fd9\u5c01\u4f20\u7968\u662f\u5171\u548c\u515a\u4eba\u5bf99\u6708\u4efd\u542f\u52a8\u7684\u9488\u5bf9\u74e6\u8328\u4e0e\u4e2d\u56fd\u5173\u7cfb\u8c03\u67e5\u7684\u6700\u65b0\u4e00\u6b65\u3002\u6b64\u6b21\u8c03\u67e5\u59cb\u4e8e8\u6708\u4ed6\u52a0\u5165\u6c11\u4e3b\u515a\u7ade\u9009\u540d\u5355\u4e4b\u540e\u3002\u5bf9\u74e6\u8328\u65c5\u884c\u5230\u4e2d\u56fd\u548c\u9999\u6e2f\u7684\u4e00\u7cfb\u5217\u4e0d\u4e00\u81f4\u63cf\u8ff0\u63ed\u793a\u4e86\u81ea\u6210\u4e3a\u54c8\u91cc\u65af\u7ade\u9009\u4f19\u4f34\u4ee5\u6765\uff0c\u8be5\u5dde\u957f\u8fc7\u53bb\u9648\u8ff0\u4e2d\u7684\u51c6\u786e\u6027\u95ee\u9898\u3002<\/p>\n

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said on Tuesday he \u201cmisspoke\u201d when he previously said he\u2019d visited Hong Kong in the spring of 1989 during protests in China\u2019s Tiananmen Square but insisted he \u201cwas in Hong Kong and China\u201d during the pro-democracy protests. His comments during Tuesday night\u2019s vice presidential debate followed the unearthing of reports that contradict previous claims he made about his travel to China, including a claim that the Democratic vice presidential nominee\u00a0was in Hong Kong\u00a0preparing for a teaching position\u00a0in 1989 during the Tiananmen Square pro-democracy protests that ended in hundreds of protesters killed by the Chinese government. \u201cMy community knows who I am. They saw where I was at,\u201d Walz said during the debate. \u201cLook, I will be the first to tell you, I have poured my heart into my community. I\u2019ve tried to do the best I can, but I\u2019ve not been perfect, and I\u2019m a knucklehead at times, but it\u2019s always been about that. Those same people elected me to Congress for 12 years.\u201d When pressed by CBS News\u2019 moderators specifically about the discrepancy between his past comments and the media reports on his travel, Walz first said he \u201cmisspoke\u201d on this. \u201cAll I said on this was, I got there that summer and misspoke on this, so I will just \u2013 that\u2019s what I\u2019ve said,\u201d he said, before adding, \u201cI was in Hong Kong and China during the democracy protests went in. And from that, I learned a lot of what needed to be in, in governance,\u201d he said. Walz regularly organized and chaperoned trips to China during his time as a teacher prior to entering politics. He previously said he visited Hong Kong in \u201cMay of \u201989,\u201d weeks before the Tiananmen Square massacre in Beijing. During a 2014 hearing of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China honoring the 25th\u00a0anniversary of the Tiananmen Square protests, Walz, then a Minnesota congressman, appeared to recall specific details of his trip to the region at that time. \u201cAs a young man, I was just going to teach high school in Foshan in Guangdong, and was in Hong Kong in May of \u201989,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd as the events were unfolding, several of us went in. And I still remember the train station in Hong Kong.\u201d \u201cThe opportunity to be in a Chinese high school at that critical time seemed to me to be really important. And it was a very interesting summer to say the least. Because if you recall, as we moved in that summer and further on and the news blackouts and things that went on, you certainly can\u2019t black out news from people if they want to get it,\u201d he continued. Walz further claimed in a\u00a0June 2019 radio interview\u00a0that he was in Hong Kong on June 4, 1989 \u2013 the day of the Tiananmen Square massacre. \u201cI was in Hong Kong on June 4, 1989, when, of course, Tiananmen Square happened. And I was in China after that. It was very strange \u2018cause, of course, all outside transmissions were, were blocked \u2013 Voice of America \u2013 and, of course, there was no, no phones or email or anything. So I was kind of out of touch. It took me a month to know the Berlin Wall had fallen when I was living there,\u201d he said. During a\u00a02009 hearing of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China to commemorate the Tiananmen Square protests, Walz claimed that he was in Hong Kong at the time, preparing to go teach in China. \u201cTwenty years ago today, I was in Hong Kong preparing to go to Foshan to teach at Foshan No. 1 Middle School,\u201d he said. \u201cTo watch what happened at the end of the day on June 4 was something that many of us will never forget, we pledge to never forget, and bearing witness and accurate telling of history is absolutely crucial for any nation to move forward.\u201d Walz\u2019s claims that he was in Hong Kong during the Tiananmen Square protests have been repeated in media reports. But contemporaneous newspaper reports\u00a0first\u00a0resurfaced by the Washington Free Beacon,\u00a0a conservative news outlet,\u00a0place Walz in Nebraska around that time.\u00a0An issue of the Alliance Times-Herald dated May 16, 1989, features a photo of Walz touring a Nebraska National Guard storeroom.\u00a0In the photo\u2019s caption, the paper notes that Walz \u201cwill take over the job\u201d of staffing the storeroom from a retiring guardsman and \u201cwill be moving to Alliance,\u201d Nebraska. A separate\u00a0newspaper article about Walz\u2019s planned trip to China published by a Nebraska-based outlet in April 1989 reported that he planned to travel to China in early August of that year. When asked by CNN if Walz was in Hong Kong during the Tiananmen Square protests, the Harris campaign was unable to provide evidence to substantiate Walz\u2019s claim. A source close to Walz told CNN that \u201cthe point Gov. Walz is making when he discusses this is that some folks in the World Teach program discussed dropping out after Tiananmen Square, but he continued on with the program because he believed it was important for the Chinese people to learn about American democracy and American history.\u201d The contradiction was first reported by Minnesota Public Radio News and APM Reports. Walz also appears to have exaggerated the number of times he\u2019s traveled to China.
