\u9762\u5bf9\u8fd9\u4e00\u6311\u6218\uff0c\u5317\u4eac\u65b9\u9762\u786e\u5b9e\u6709\u8d23\u4efb\u52a0\u5f3a\u5bf9\u6b64\u7c7b\u5185\u5bb9\u7684\u6cbb\u7406\u3002\u7136\u800c\uff0c\u5728\u8fd9\u6b21\u4e8b\u4ef6\u4e4b\u540e\uff0c\u7f51\u4e0a\u8ba8\u8bba\u653b\u51fb\u884c\u4e3a\u7684\u5185\u5bb9\u4e5f\u906d\u5230\u4e86\u5e7f\u6cdb\u7684\u5ba1\u67e5\u548c\u5220\u51cf\uff0c\u5c24\u5176\u662f\u5728\u540c\u60c5\u6216\u8d28\u7591\u53cd\u65e5\u8bba\u8ff0\u4e3a\u4f55\u80fd\u591f\u8513\u5ef6\u5230\u5982\u6b64\u89c4\u6a21\u7684\u573a\u5408\u4e0a\u3002<\/p>\n

\u5c3d\u7ba1\u653f\u5e9c\u884c\u52a8\u6709\u9650\uff0c\u4f46\u6765\u81ea\u4e2d\u3001\u65e5\u4e24\u56fd\u7684\u6c11\u95f4\u52aa\u529b\u5728\u63a8\u52a8\u53cc\u65b9\u548c\u89e3\u65b9\u9762\u5c55\u73b0\u51fa\u4e86\u4e00\u7ebf\u5e0c\u671b\u3002\u4f8b\u5982\uff0c\u6df1\u5733\u65e5\u672c\u5b66\u6821\u7684\u5b66\u751f\u906d\u9047\u4e0d\u5e78\u540e\uff0c\u6536\u5230\u4e86\u6765\u81ea\u4e2d\u56fd\u6c11\u4f17\u8d85\u8fc71000\u675f\u7684\u6170\u95ee\u82b1\u675f\uff1b\u800c\u4e1c\u4eac\u7684\u6570\u5341\u540d\u5c45\u6c11\u81ea\u53d1\u7ec4\u7ec7\u4e86\u4e00\u573a\u70db\u5149\u60bc\u5ff5\u4eea\u5f0f\u6765\u54c0\u60bc\u8be5\u7537\u5b69\u3002<\/p>\n

\u8fd9\u4e9b\u884c\u52a8\u4e0d\u4ec5\u53cd\u6620\u4e86\u4e2d\u65e5\u4eba\u6c11\u4e4b\u95f4\u7684\u6df1\u539a\u60c5\u611f\u8054\u7cfb\uff0c\u8fd8\u4f53\u73b0\u4e86\u4e24\u56fd\u6c11\u4f17\u5728\u4e0d\u540c\u7acb\u573a\u80cc\u666f\u4e0b\u7684\u5171\u540c\u4e4b\u5904\u3002\u4e8b\u4ef6\u53d1\u751f\u4e00\u4e2a\u6708\u540e\uff0c\u6df1\u5733\u5e02\u7684\u88ad\u51fb\u8005\u88ab\u8bc1\u5b9e\u662f\u4e00\u540d\u5931\u4e1a\u4eba\u5458\uff0c\u8fd9\u5f15\u53d1\u4e86\u5168\u7403\u8303\u56f4\u5185\u7684\u62c5\u5fe7\u2014\u2014\u7ecf\u6d4e\u538b\u529b\u548c\u793e\u4f1a\u52a8\u8361\u65f6\u671f\uff0c\u7f51\u7edc\u4e0a\u7684\u4ec7\u6068\u8a00\u8bba\u53ef\u80fd\u52a0\u5267\u793e\u4f1a\u7d27\u5f20\u548c\u66b4\u529b\u98ce\u9669\u3002<\/p>\n

\u5728\u4e2d\u56fd\u793e\u4f1a\u5a92\u4f53\u5e73\u53f0\u4e0a\uff0c\u653f\u5e9c\u5bf9\u4fe1\u606f\u7684\u4e25\u683c\u63a7\u5236\u5bfc\u81f4\u4e86\u4e00\u79cd\u9690\u6027\u7684\u76d1\u63a7\u73af\u5883\uff0c\u4f7f\u5f97\u8fd9\u79cd\u8ba8\u8bba\u53d8\u5f97\u66f4\u52a0\u590d\u6742\u3002\u6b64\u5916\uff0c\u8fd1\u671f\u7684\u4e00\u7cfb\u5217\u4e8b\u4ef6\u8868\u660e\uff0c\u5373\u4f7f\u5728\u5b98\u65b9\u5c42\u9762\u91c7\u53d6\u884c\u52a8\u4e4b\u540e\uff0c\u4ecd\u7136\u5b58\u5728\u66f4\u591a\u9700\u8981\u89e3\u51b3\u7684\u95ee\u9898\uff0c\u5982\u5982\u4f55\u66f4\u597d\u5730\u5904\u7406\u5bf9\u65e5\u672c\u7684\u5386\u53f2\u60c5\u611f\u548c\u8206\u8bba\u5bfc\u5411\u95ee\u9898\u3002<\/p>\n

\u6700\u7ec8\uff0c\u6d88\u9664\u7f51\u7edc\u4ec7\u6068\u8a00\u8bba\u4e0d\u4ec5\u662f\u4e2d\u3001\u65e5\u4e24\u56fd\u4e4b\u95f4\u4fee\u590d\u5173\u7cfb\u7684\u5173\u952e\u4e00\u6b65\uff0c\u4e5f\u662f\u5168\u7403\u793e\u4ea4\u5a92\u4f53\u5065\u5eb7\u53d1\u5c55\u7684\u5fc5\u8981\u6761\u4ef6\u3002\u5c3d\u7ba1\u77ed\u671f\u5185\u9762\u4e34\u7684\u6311\u6218\u590d\u6742\u4e14\u8270\u5de8\uff0c\u4f46\u901a\u8fc7\u52a0\u5f3a\u6c9f\u901a\u3001\u7406\u89e3\u4e0e\u5c0a\u91cd\u5f7c\u6b64\u7684\u6587\u5316\u5386\u53f2\u80cc\u666f\uff0c\u4e2d\u3001\u65e5\u53cc\u65b9\u53ef\u4ee5\u643a\u624b\u5171\u540c\u4e3a\u672a\u6765\u7684\u5173\u7cfb\u53d1\u5c55\u5960\u5b9a\u66f4\u52a0\u575a\u5b9e\u7684\u57fa\u7840\u3002<\/p>\n

Nationalism, propaganda and hate speech on social media have been widely linked to a shocking act of real-world violence that threatens to destabilize an already fraught relationship between China and Japan.After a Chinese man  a 10-year-old Japanese boy earlier this month in Shenzhen, Tokyo officials have demanded their Beijing counterparts do more to curb online posts fueling anti-Japanese hate in  separate  this week.The Chinese government has spent years promoting such propaganda online, including allowing fake videos of Japanese children supposedly screaming that they will take over China  or spreading  about the Fukushima nuclear disaster. The tragedy shows that it\u2019s impossible to keep the nationalism promoted online from having consequences offline, particularly when the ruling party fosters such animosity by heavily curating and censoring the internet behind the Great Firewall. Beijing has a responsibility to crack down on this content.But already, many internet discussions of the attack are being censored, especially those expressing sympathy. In the absence of top-down action from the Communist Party, people from both countries are working both online and offline toward reconciliation, offering glimmers of hope.The Shenzhen Japanese School, where the boy was a student, has received more than 1,000 bouquets of condolence flowers from Chinese people, according to a  on Weibo. (An especially powerful gesture of peace as many of those dropping off flowers , fearing it would cause trouble with authorities). Dozens of Chinese residents in Tokyo organized a candlelight memorial for the boy. \u201cWe wanted to convey to the Japanese people that not all Chinese are like the perpetrator,\u201d an organizer told a local . The boy\u2019s Japanese father reportedly penned an emotional , saying that fostering understanding between the two nations will be his way of atoning for his death \u2014 and his form of \u201cretribution for the perpetrator.\u201dChina has insisted the stabbing was an \u201cisolated\u201d incident, but has not disclosed motive. The killing occurred on the 93rd anniversary of the Mukden Incident, a railway explosion set up by Japanese forces and used as an excuse to invade Manchuria. The Japanese Imperial Army went on to commit unspeakable wartime atrocities in China.Resentments run deep, but the Chinese government has also been accused of still teaching and promoting anti-Japanese sentiments to the current generation, almost 80 years after Japan\u2019s World War II surrender. Beijing  the allegation.Violence caused by digital hate speech is a global issue. In the US, former President Donald Trump was banned from most social media platforms in 2021 for inciting violence with posts leading up to the Jan. 6 storming of the Capitol. Human rights groups have -parent Meta Platforms Inc. of spreading dangerous hate speech against the minority Rohingya population in Myanmar, leading to mass violence in 2017. This summer, online misinformation and an  was linked to fueling far-right riots in Britain.  But a core difference in China is that social media platforms are heavily and opaquely regulated by authorities. And as social tensions and uncertainty surge amid a period of economic malaise, allowing digital hate to fester is dangerous. The Shenzhen stabbing suspect was unemployed, and xenophobia around the globe has been shown to thrive in times of economic anxiety.The attack comes roughly three months after a Chinese man assaulted a Japanese woman and her child at a bus stop in Suzhou. A Chinese bystander later died from injuries after jumping in to help.  As my colleague Minxin Pei has , the easiest and quickest way for Chinese leaders to prevent further tragedy and mend the relationship is by toning down anti-Japanese propaganda.For their part, Japanese politicians would be wise recognize the lingering pain felt by their neighbors, and  where convicted war criminals are commemorated. Beijing must also show a sustained commitment to eradicating internet hate speech. In the wake of the July attack, the Cyberspace Administration of China announced a to target the \u201cspreading of extreme opinions\u201d that provoke \u201cgroup opposition.\u201d And mouthpieces for the CCP that domestic platforms including Weibo, Tencent\u2019s WeChat, ByteDance\u2019s Douyin and others were cracking down on \u201cextreme remarks against Japan.\u201d At the time, Weibo said it suspended or shut down 36 accounts and WeChat said it did the same for 61 accounts. But it\u2019s clear more needs to be done.Even this month,  expressing sympathy and questioning why anti-Japan rhetoric was allowed to reach this point were censored. And Japanese social media users were riled up after the Chinese Embassy  urging citizens to take safety precautions if they travel to Japan \u201cin light of the current situation.\u201d The warning prompted viral responses on X, formerly Twitter, from Japanese users telling Chinese people not to come to Japan and other xenophobic, anti-Chinese remarks. The memory of the boy himself is proof these two sides have more in common than it might seem. He had a Japanese father and a Chinese mother, with cultural roots in both countries.
